Rio Gallegos
Whistler Flyfishing is pleased to offer Argentina angling adventures iworking with Loop Tackle’s fabulous Rio Gallegos lodge in Buitreras. Loop founder Christer Sjoberg is a recognized as an industry leader when it comes to developing world class angling destinations. The comfortable Loop lodge at Buiterais is the ideal setting for your Patagonian angling adventure.
Loop’s Las Buitreras lodge is home to the most prolific fishing beats on the Rio Gallegos, consisting of close to 50 kms of both river sides private water comprising over 50 named pools offering a wide variety of interesting runs.
The Rio Gallegos River is has its origin in the Southern Andes from two pristine and very beautiful streams, the Penitente and the Ruebens. From there the river winds nearly 300 kms through the wild Patagonian landscape till it emerges into the mountainous area that surrounds the unique Las Buitreras beats, some 40kms upstream of the river mouth. Bird and wildlife life in the area is abundant with many rheas, silver foxes, horses, hares, flamingos and guanacos
The Buitreras beat on the Rio Gallegos has some of the best sea trout fishing in the world. The river here is relatively shallow, making for easy wading, avoiding the need for fast sinking lines and creating an exciting and challenging fishing environment. It is this variety in combination with the visually inspiring mountainous outcrops that makes this part of the Rio Gallegos quite simply one of the most spectacular stretches of fly fishing water in Patagonia.
Rio Gallegos was recently made catch and release and so far this has made a noticeable difference with both size and numbers of returning sea run Brown Trout. Expect sea Trout ranging from 5 pounds to 25 pounds. This are strong fish, very comparable in size and strength to Streelhead and Atlantic Salmon.
Jurrassic Lake
Anglers can choose to fish exclusively for sea run Brown Trout or extend their trip with an excursion to Jurrassic Lake. Jurrassic Lake is undoubtedly one of the most productive Rainbow Trout fisheries on the planet. Fish here reach unbelievable proportions, the average size is just over ten pounds and fish in excess of 20 pounds have been landed. Loop maintains a tent camp on the best portion of the lake making for some of the worlds best fishing just a few steps away from your bed in the morning.
Whistler Flyfishing has some spaces still available for the 2010 season. We are pleased to offer hosted trips and flyfishing schools to Argentina. Please call the fly shop for more info including dates and pricing.
