Brian Niska has been fly fishing in fresh and saltwater for twenty five years and has been involved in the fly fishing industry for over twenty years,he has contributed to rod and line design, worked in fly shops, as a commercial fly tier, guide and instructor of casting, fly fishing and fly tying courses. Brian has.seventeen years of guiding experience in a variety of locales including South America and here in British Columbia fishing the many rivers in the Whistler area as well as the Bulkley River in northern BC.
Brian is certified as a Master Casting Instructor and Two Handed Casting Instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers. His skills as both a fly caster and instructor have made him a featured fly casting demonstrator at many fishing and outdoor shows throughout western Canada. He is especially sought after as a speycasting instructor, teaching his smooth blend of skagit and underhand styles. Speyfishing for Steelhead and Chinook Salmon is Brian’s specialty and he teaches destination speyfishing schools on some of BC's finest Steelhead and Salmon rivers as well as being featured as a guest spey instructor at Alaska West during King Salmon season.Brian has also appeared on various fishing show episodes including The New Fly fisher, Sportfishing BC, Fishing with Shelly and Courtney,The Flyfinhg Fisherman and Fly Fishing America and is the resident prostaff spey expert on flybc.ca.
A strong advocate of habitat restoration to preserve wild fish stocks, Brian is dedicated to the preservation of wild fish and the pristine waters essential to their survival. He has served as a director of the Steelhead Society of British Columbia, as president of the Whistler Angling Club and is a past member of the Osprey Flyfishers of British Columbia.
Brian Niska is the head instructor at the Whistler Flyfishing School.He teaches speycasting throughout western Canada and has been a featured casting instructor at fishing expos and outdoor shows as well as appearing on various fishing tv shows. Brian is certified as a Master Casting Instructor and Two Handed Casting Instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers. Brian teaches his own modern Northwestern technique, a smooth blend of skagit and underhand styles.
